Reflections On Pregnancy From A Father

Pregnancy - from the male perspective - is a very interesting topic. Now that my daughters are nine and five respectively I can look back with enjoyment about those days. I recall the excitement behind discovering we were pregnant and expecting our first child. I vividly remember the first ultrasound and the joy at hearing the heartbeat, seeing the outline of a life, and being told the sex – of course they totally got that wrong, but as things turned out, I would never have changed a thing.

My wife really enjoyed her pregnancy months, often shopping for things like maternity briefs and other maternitywear, and also nursing accessories too. She didn't worry as much as I did!

My favorite memories leading up the birth would be reading to the baby in utero and listing to classical music, both of my children still enjoy being read to and listening to music to this very day. The not so favorite part would have to be having to cater to my spouse’s cravings throughout the pregnancy, not so much having to go out and buy Krispy Kreme donuts at 4 in the morning, but for me enjoying them with her and putting on a sizable amount of weight myself.
